FB Marketplace Find - Final run Nikon F "Apollo"

I don't usually buy many cameras locally as they tend to be in various states of disrepair, but last week I came across a lot of cameras and thought I spotted a black paint Nikon F. I certainly didn't need another F, but I figured it would be a good idea to ask the gentleman if he would be open to selling the camera separately - Yes...but only if I take the lens too! Sure enough, it was cheap enough for me to justify bringing it home!

Upon looking up the serial number, I discovered that this camera was in fact a final run F, made sometime within the Jan-Feb 1973 timeline for the serial range. It's in rough shape cosmetically but I think it's a gorgeous camera. The lens is equally rough cosmetically but appears to be mostly scratch free without haze or fungus!

The best part? Perhaps unsurprisingly, this camera works perfectly...although it's definitely getting a CLA as soon as I can afford it!

On your photo on Flickr:

- Click the arrow in the bottom right (it will say 'Share Photo' if you hover over it)

- Click 'BBCode'

- Select the size you want from the drop down menu (I use wither 800px or 1024px on the long side)

- Copy the code

- Paste into your comment here 🙂

The advance lever and frame counter are quite loose but still usable - definitely plan on getting this beauty a CLA as soon as I can afford one.

There it is! Although I remember it as the larger size that brbo posted.

One thing to do to get the title to run under the photo is to insert a line return in the BB Code at the brackets where the two url][url's are.

Yeah, it was heavy, but not overwhelmingly so. Unfortunately in that configuration it was a junker. I never was able to get the drive to run at anymore than 1/4 speed. I repaired the battery holder and gave that to TomA. I replaced the finder with a proper black eye level prism, and got a regular black back for it. After all that I don't recall ever using it. I think it may have been the one body that I found would not open the aperture all the way.

I later got a body that would have originally come with the eye level prism, but was so far into other projects by then I just set it aside for later. Now it's all buried somewhere in the box pile. I should have some time now to bring it back out.
