EDIT: THE FEBRUARY MEET-UP IS FEBRUARY 24th AT 1:00 PM AT PUCK FAIR.

I'm posting early because we need to assemble a few mandatory characters from our group to have an effective contest.

First off we need Barrett our MC and judge. He is essential, and also know he is easy to bribe with both food and drink.

Next is John Chee last year's grand prize winner with a killer black paint 2005 Nikon SP with of course the multicoated version of the legendary 35/1.8 Nikkor. John was the pre-verb-I-L runner up for the first two "Pagents" and is a great-great sport. At the first "Pagent" he had the "vintage" M9 (the one with the lower serial number) when the M9 was first released, and a killer black paint M2. We need the ex champ at this year's contest/pagent.

For those who are new: know that we kinda make up the rules as we go along, but generally we love multiple submissions and unlimited accessories. Also know that Cristian is always the guy to beat with his "Frank-ken-cameras" he assembles.

Know that we laugh a lot at ourselves, but also know that because we are mostly New Yorkers that we also tend to get rather loud and rowdy. Although Barrett is the judge know that basically the mob rules.

Let the trash talking begin. LOL.

Also donations are needed as prizes. I will donate a very retro Panavue slide viewer.

I can't wait to see the photos, you should start a Flickr page for the meetups. I will be there in spirit and perhaps in body for March!

Damaso,

First I have to be able to make digital images, although soon I'll have a MM.

Keep us in the loop about March. I believe the last November Meet-Up marked the four year anniversity of the New York Meet-Up you started.

I will be Happy to Co-JUDGE with Barrett !!!
ah what Sinister Fun we will have ...:p

I do think it needs a 'Woman's' Perspective
enough of this MALE Hierarchy ...:p...;)

I guess I'll have the vintage MM then ....
I'll not yet disclose the lens that it will carry but I'm in.

Please join in. Just know that bribing the judges with drinks is allowed.

Klaus,

Both Jeff and John had brand new M9's at the first Annual Leica M-Body Beauty Pagent, but Jeff's camera was dismissed rather early in the competition by the vintage snobs. LOL.

Since that very first event the rules got looser and looser and now the competition is not restricted to Leica M-Bodies exclusively. That first pagent was very-very rowdy and there was mucho trash talking that was way over the top. Damaso was the Champ from that first event.

The audience seems to love rare and freaky cameras though.

Originally a competition started rather causually between Cristian and I because early on in the meet-ups I was bragging in a thread about bringing in a big rangefinder, a Fuji G690BL (original Texas Leica), but Cristian came to the meet-up with a Linhoff to make me humble. Soon thereafter I had this idea of having a camera "Beauty Pagent" to laugh at ourselves and the culture we created here at RFF.

Usually there is an M9 or two floating around the meetups, no? I look forward to being back soon!

Damaso,

At one meet-up we had a record of 7 M9's including a chrome M9P. Just a while back Scott had his original M9 upgraded to a "P" to get an extension on Leica service and basically got a new camera.

Klaus has joined our group and he was an early owner of a Monochrome. I expect mine towards the end of this month.

BTW everyone, I know that Helen has a particular fondness for LTM Leicas, and that she also recently has had GAS for a 35/1.8 Nikkor.

Well I think christian is going to be the one to beat. All he has to do is add that linhof grip to any of his frank-en cameras and hes as good as home

Controlling a rowdy mob is not so predictable.

Anyways Cristian has good tastes and like me he likes grips.

I only have one camera with a grip. I can't help it that is the best grip ever.

I'll just be entering a simple IIIc, that takes AA batteries, nothing outrageous, no added grips or anything fancy.

So, where are we going to do it this year?

John,

This is a good question, but its still very early yet. Any suggestion?

Also know that at my boring day-job the Internet has been down all morning, but I used the time to polish the black paint 1938 Leica II (Model D) with chrome knobs and small shutter speed dial. Not sure if you will recognize the camera without the 75 years worth of "vintage" oil and crud removed. The black paint now looks shiny, and to be vain, oh what a pretty camera.

Is puck fair now off limits?

Puck Fair is a good place that has a lot to offer. Let's have the Fourth Annual Camera Beauty Contest there.

As usual I tend to go with the first suggestion that makes someone happy.

Now if Barrett, Helen, John C., or Christian could firm up a date in February...

I hope not. If this uptown thing is a success, perhaps we could alternate between Pucks and some other location. I don't have a problem with it as it is.
I am pretty flexible on dates, but I can't really look that far ahead.

Plus one on your thoughts. Puck Fair is a great location and has good beer for John.

I just wanted to post this thread early as possible since this is a big cultural event and tradition for most of us. Also because it involves now two judges and last years reigning champion John C.

BTW the M4 bus that runs on Madison and 5th Avenue is the best way for us Eastsiders to traverse Madhattan to get to Harlem Public.
