FED 1948 Zorki?

Another of my interesting shopping finds today was a little FED/1948/Zorki. I just sold my old Zorki 1 on ebay, and was looking for something to replace it, I was surprised to find this little camera.

It is in good condition, other than ratty shutter curtains (which I will replace soon). An interesting feature is that the camera has a 1/1000 top shutter speed. Shutter speeds seem accurate, and the camera operates smoothly.

Anyone here have a clue as to what this camera is worth? The only one I found on ebay was rather ridiculously priced, I would imagine the "street" value to be lower.

It depends. The FED-Zorki is the predecessor of the Zorki, a FED-1 made in Krasnogorsk in 1948. There used to be quite some collectors demand, which seems to have ebbed down a bit. As a result of past demand, though, there are a lot of fake FED-Zorkis around, see Guido Studer's page. One would have to take a look at yours to see if it's genuine.

Out of interest, I think all the early FEDs had the possibility of 1000th, the selector hole is present. A few minutes with a file on the arm would allow it to become selectable. Setting the shutter up so it worked properly might be another matter though!
