I recently acquired a 1955 FED 1G. This is my first bottom loading FED. It's in nice condition, and seems to do everything it should.
My problem is that despite cutting the leader in the way explained by Jay in his excellent site here (http://jay.fedka.com/index_files/Page345.htm), Ilford FP4 seems to just tear after a couple of winds. I practiced loading with some old Kodak Gold 200 which worked fine. Another roll of expired colour film also loaded without a problem.
Has anyone experienced a problem with using Ilford FP4? One observation I made is that the film canister for FP4 seems "fatter", and is quite hard to get out of the camera, whereas Kodak just drops out as you'd expect once the film is wound back in.
Much as I love FP4, I don't want to risk ruining another roll; as I have tried two rolls. As I say, other brands of film load and wind on without a problem.
Many thanks,
David

It might be a fault of the take up spool. Is it original?

Yes, I think so. The impression I get is that something stops/ restricts the unexposed film from leaving the canister. As I say, there is no problem with two other types of film.It might be a fault of the take up spool. Is it original?
