The lens looks pretty shabby and the distance ring keeps coming loose.
The viewfinder is pretty dark.
It has a fine coating of gritty dust pretty much everywhere.
So, cleaning will be my first priority, then we'll get some film through it.
Does anyone know if the rangefinder is likely to improve with a cleaning, or are they just dim?
Thanks,

I've never had a Soviet camera viewfinder that didn't benefit from a good cleaning.
If you want to see something really interesting, disassemble it on top of a sheet of clean white paper. Weigh the dirt that falls out.

I was just looking over the rangefinder cleaning instructions...I think I'll see if it can be aligned first. It's way off as near as I can tell.
Man...I have to go wash my hands!

I thought mine was dim when it arrived, so I gave it a good clean - no improvement :-(dazedgonebye said:The lens looks pretty shabby and the distance ring keeps coming loose.

You'll get used to it and if the rangefinder is like mine it'll be very contrasty so it's not that bad to use overall.
Have fun!
I have some shutter problems with mine but I love the handling, so I'm hoping to get it sorted.
