I am looking at getting a FED 2. Both are NIB condition. the Fed 2 B has no Self Timer, and older Shutter Speeds (1/25, 1/50, 1/100...) and the FED 2 D has self timer and newer SS (1/30 1/60, 1/125....)

Any real Quality differance in the Shutter? or is it just a timing change within?

Both have the 52mm f/2.8 lens rigid lens.

Any DIY fix it issues that are common with the FED 2s?

Thanks in advance.....🙂

No real difference between them, unless you feel the need for the self-timer. Generally, older tends to mean better build quality on FSUs. The FED 2 is generally very reliable. Check the obvious on them...pinholes in the shutter, properly working speeds etc. I have a 2b that's utterly reliable and extremely smooth, if a bit loud (relative to my other FSUs and others find the opposite to be true!).

It's only a matter of taste, but the B has the early knobs rather than the mushroom type of the later model. It took me a little time to bag this version as it is just that bit less common.
The solution is very easy, get both?

Thanks for the info....
One more Question...

What do the od SNs mean??? the Fed 2D I am looking at one that has this one.

Yet it is an 1957-8 feature set...Self-Timer and musroom dials, BUT older Shutter Speeds sequence. Is there a quide somewhere to sort it out?

I'm sure FED had a system for serial numbers really but it does seem like they pulled them from a hat! I have no idea how to unravel them and I've never seen a resource that does, other than for the FED 1. If someone knows of one, please chip in!

As for the "features", changes were often brought in bit by bit and old parts used up where they could be. As a result you might well see a new style body with old shutter speeds and the like.
