Hi Andrew,
Laika has already answered the questions but just to show it in situ a couple of pics.
The first shows the later fed arrangement. Take out the lock screw (white) and then unscrew the post (yellow). The whole lot then drops out the bottom. The earlier Feds just have a post so use a padded set of pliers here.
If you need to separate the bottom of a Zorki, you have to remove the pin shown with a black arrow in the third pic and this allows the latch to come off the inside.
In both cases make a note of how it comes apart. It is possible to re-assemble it either 90 or 180 degrees out as I have found several times.

Gentlemen, thank you sooooo much. I've placed the photos into my FED 2 folder and will look forward to doing some custom painting in January. I'll be out of town for the rest of December.

Thanks for the heads up on noting the position of the locking rings. I also notice that locking rings are different. I believe the left side has a provision for using self-loading film cannisters.
