Hi,
I finaly had time to "repair" my Fed-2. The Shutter ribbons of the first curtain were broken so I thought i´ll give it a shot. disasembled it using the "FED-2 shutter repair" page found on the web and glued the ribbons back on the shutter roller.

Yesterday I managed to get it all back together and the shutter firing again (small yipee) but my happyness soon went away after trying to adjust the shutter speeds (did that before on my IIIa and Leica Standard so I had a bit of experience and both worked very well..) The problem is that nether Bulb nor the slow speeds worked! I check the speeds using the TV/Monitor method and the slow speeds show the same banding as to be expected at 1/125 regardless of how I adjust the tension

also when I have too little tension on the 2nd. shutter curtain it stops halfway in travel and sticks untill I move the shutter roller (the big drum left hand side) a bit....(only on fast set speeds 500 - 125 on the setting 50 or 25 it travels through..too fast thou)

My question is: is there anything I could have put together wrong so disabling the B setting (and the slow speeds)? :bang:

I´d soo love to use my FED-2 again (esp. since the VF is now clean and crisp) so your help is very appreciated!!

Usually, the B setting malfunctions when the restricting gear (at base of drum) isn't properly installed. In older FED-1 or Zorki cameras, you'd have to dismantle the shutter again. Luckily, the FED-2 has a provision for adjusting this gear without taking the whole shutter assembly apart. It's accessible at the bottom of the shutter crate, just below the main drum. The instructions for doing this are rather lengthy, but I think I can send you a scan (privy email) if you wish.

One possible cause for the slow speed appearing to be the same as 125th is that the second curtain "tab" is not being trapped by the selector. Get the top off and watch this in operation. The crescent shaped release level should drop (with the movement of the release button) and trap the tab of the second curtain until either the first curtain tab knocks it off (all speeds) or the lever is raised to release it (Bulb). If not debris in the way (check those curtain shields for trapping the curtains) then it seems that the set up was disturbed in re-assembly.
A really easy way to mess this up is to re-assemble with the cog that drives the large drum in the wrong position as it meshes with the drum cog. This allows the speed selector tabs to be in the wrong place when cocked. Look carefully at where the curtains begin and end on their travel across the frame. Too much to one side give the clue.....easy to change though....

ZorkiKat,
I have it all apart on my FED2 as well, and can't figure out how to put shutters back in a box in a correct way - could you, please send me info on that too? I'm at a loss here. Thanks you can send it to krosyagms at yahoo dot com.
