I just received my Fed 2 in the mail mounted with a Industar 61...52mm f/2.8. I assume this is not the "LD" version of this lens?
Can anyone tell me what the framelines are for the Fed 2....50mm?
If I purchase a 35mm, will I need an external finder? Thanks!

You do need an auxiliary finder for a 35mm. The FED 2 finder does not have any marked frame lines. The framing for a 50mm is the whole area seen in the finder. Dave

hi bigdog,
yes, the viewfinder is for the 50mm.
and yes, you'll need an external finder for a 35mm lens.
Congrats on your new Fed 2. The I-61 is a good lens (even the non LD version).

there's some references in this forum about the I61 having the L/D glass, but not being marked until they produced the black version. If I remember correctly it was in Maizenbergs book. In simple test I have run, the L/D version comes out no better than the Panda (black and white ringed) version.

my FSU 35mm view finder does not fit the fed 2 because the "shoe" sits so deep. any ideas on "fixing" this problem?

Buy a PC-sync to hot-shoe adapter. It looks like a small cube with a hot shoe on top.
It will increase the paralax error, but at 35mm focal length... it will be ok

With a FED 2, definitely need an external finder. In fact I find the FED 2 finder only covers about 80% of a 50mm, when comparing the field of view against the image projected on a piece of wax paper held up against the back with the shutter held open.
My Zorki 4 is the opposite - the viewfinder shows a bit more than the lens, probably equivalent to a 45mm.
