Fed 2 light leak

I've been lurking and enjoying this forum for the past month which rekindled my interest in RF photography and collecting FSU equipment.

So I dusted off my Fed 2 which hasn't been used for at least 5 years and shot some pictures and found this type of light leak in 8 frames out of 24. The attached picture is the worst case scenario.

I've tried the "flashlight in darkness" trouble shoot for curtain pinholes in total darkness and it seems fine. However, I do notice that the shutter is a bit sluggish and may need CLA.

Any suggestions or DIY tips will be much appreciated.

Your shutter is not completely capping at the end of its travel. It is a miniscule thing, in that you may not be able to "see" the problem when you look at the shutter. Check to see if the shutter curtains are completely overlaped when you start to re-cock the shutter. I have observed several FSU cams, where the pair of curtains are not completely overlapped when you start to re-cock the shutter. Not sure how to solve the problem, as it could be lack of lubrication on the geartrain, or weak shutter springs (can be retensioned), or improper attachment of the trailing shutter curtain to it's drum, etc.

Usually caused by a mistensioned curtain, a CLA will fix the problem 99% of the time, I have some that sounded like a rat trap snapping when the shutter was tripped. caused by some one trying to correct poor shutter speeds by tightening up the springs. You don't need a shutter speed tester to check it out, a computer screen works fine ( not an LCD). Thanks guys that was helpful and assuring that it is CLA related. I think I can get around that but if there are websites with good illustrations for doing this on a Fed-2, please point them out. If not, then I have to study Maizenberg.
