Fed-2 - Made in 1937?

I read another thread about this same subject but started my own since it was older. I just wanted to make sure I was right about the age of my Fed-2. After looking at fedka.com and commiecameras.com and looking at this chart I think it was made in 1937, but it looks so nice it is kind of hard to belive.

I cant wait to use it, it is in the mail right now with the original case and Fed marked I-22 lens.

no production Fed 2 was made in the 1930s or 1940s.

The chart you have is for the Fed-1, not the Fed-2.

oh, gotcha, seemed kind of new and also having a combined RF/VF seemed odd for 1937 🙂

So after reading more about it the serial number and engraving puts this Fed-2 in the "Pre-Production or Pre-Series" models. Pretty cool since I have the "Fed" I-22 to go with it.

Hi,

That looks like a nice outfit you have (coming). I'd be interested in a few more photographs of both the body and lens, and your opinion of it in use. You'll also find that the Jupiter 8 goes nicely with it and is very "usable", especially with one of those Chinese vented lens hoods that get everywhere on ebay but mostly on the Leica pages.

BTW, the more I read about FED's and Zorkis the more I get annoyed by people who confuse politics with engineering and ignore history. I often wonder if I'm the only one getting upset by their stupidity.

Pre-production (aka pre-series) usually have a lever not knob (as in yours) to disengage the sprocket for rewind. Also RF/viewfinder windows in front are square not round.

I agree, this isn't a pre-production model. It's a fairly common Model 2a.

I think you'll like it. If the lens is original, it is technically an Industar-10, not a 22. The history is a bit confusing, but Fed never produced the I-22. Fed production included the I-10, I-26, and I-61. KMZ introduced the I-22, I-50, and assorted Jupiters. I love my I-10; I think you'll be really happy with the quality of the images.

A Fed-2 type a, made between 1955-56 (according to Princelle). I have one just like it.
