FED-2 repair CLA in the EU

Hi,


my very first real camera, a FED-2 - which I got in 1991 - was not used for some years and as I took it from the shelf last year I found our that it still works quite well but that the shutter curtain has some small holes.

I would like to have the shutter replaced and I am looking for someone to do this and a CLA to the camera.

Is there someone in the EU who would do the job for a reasonable price?
(I would prefere to do this inside the EU because of shipping fees and customs issues.)

How badly are the curtains holed? If they are generally not in too bad condition and the holes are small, people have often repaired holes with liquid electrical tape, which is easily available. You just paint over the holes and leave for at least 24 hours to dry. This may save you time and money but is a shorter-term repair.

You can try Kameraservice Ostkreuz in Berlin, or Kameraservice Peter Olbrich in Görlitz - officially I think they don't advertise servicing FSU cameras, but you can always try. Don't expect super-low prices. If anything, tell them the camera has sentimental value.

Hi Thomas, before you pay more money than the camera value in changing the curtains... (don't worry, I also have the FED2, I think it is simply great!!!) Try with the "liquidtape" (you can find it in r/c model shops...) it is quite a miracle.. I have repaired the curtains of my leica iii.

Do you think that this could be fixed for a longer time with liquid tape?

The shutter curtain also has some vertical cracks in it
if it is in the cocked position.

Hi,

If my experience is anything to go by then Oleg will probably be your best bet. This is because he can supply and fit new curtains and he charges reasonable prices. You should ask what duty and tax will be charged and, remember, a local shop will charge the same tax.

Sorry for my extreme delay in the answer... About the liquid tape... I have repaired quite big holes in the curtains of my camera... You should take off the back of the camera and, pointing to a powerful lamp, look at the curtains. The first and the second (before and after the rewinding).
In my opinion, since the price of the liquid tape is low, You could try it before to proceed with a curtain operation...

I have used the liquid on both sides of each curtain... It works great! You must only use a thin layer of liquid...
