Hello!
I just got my first rangefinder yesterday, a FED-2 that arrived from Russia. I'm trying to find out more about the camera, and I'm wondering if anyone could help?

From other information posted on these forums, the serial number of 280091 means the camera is a FED-2B, which makes sense since it has no self timer. But I've been to a website which shows pictures of a 2B, and the markings on my camera are quite a bit different. I have nothing on the top except the script FED, and even the little arrow for the shutter speed has been replaced with a small red dot. Yet the film advance wheel is like that of a 2B, and not a later camera.

In addition, the case seems to have two snaps on it instead of one, which that website said was typical.
Are these normal for a FED 2B? I'd guess that the change to newer parts over time would mean that there is substantial variation from camera to camera. I guess I'm interested if my camera is normal, but also in what other variations there are.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I decided on a FED2 after reading the advice here on these forums, they are a great resource

Welcome to RFF for a start...

That is indeed a FED 2b, looks exactly like mine. The commiecameras site has the case-snaps data wrong in most cases (no pun intended) so ignore it. Two snaps is usual for a FED 1 or 2 case, one snap for most other FEDs.

I'd suggest you make your pictures a bit smaller to post, unless there's some reason to make them that size....

thank you all! I couldn't figure out what I was looking at. I also appriciated the unintended pun

Sorry about the images; I didn't realize that they wouldn't be resized to fit the window.

now all i need is some sunshine and i can start using this! the weather isn't too pretty in the central US this time of year
