FED 5 spool swap & tripod bushing

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking in this forum for a long time and I registered not too long ago. Lot's of great info and people here. 🙂

I have a (blue) FED 2 C. I want to do the FED 5 spool swap and the tripod bushing swap shown at http://www.geocities.com/fzorkis/swap_it_out.html

Just wondering if it's only the FED 5 that can be used to perform these swaps. If that's the case, does anyone have these parts for sale? I know I can just buy one (form you know where), but I don't think these upgrades are worth buying a camera just to do this.

Buy a fed 5 with I-61 and think of it as buying a new lens + 2 spare parts + paper weight 🙂

Here's a possible candidate:Cheap FED5.
Alex-photo is a good seller and the price is right. Plus you'll get a Industar 61 lens.

Any of the later Feds with fixed spools should work, They are all essentially the same insofar as the spool is concerned.

I'm not so sure about the ability to transplant a tripod socket from a Fed -5 to a Fed-2. I once tried swapping from one model of Fed-2 to another model of Fed-2 and had trouble with the fit. However, if it doesn't work, you can always buy a threaded insert adapter.

Just an update..............I got the FED 5 from Chaser today. 😀 Perfect transaction. I'll be doing the mods this weekend. Gotta finish off this roll of film first.

Another update...........the "FED 5 spool and tripod bushing" to a FED 2 went perfect. There was nothing to the conversion so I didn't document the process.
