I expect that everyone knows this already, but it might just help in the unlikely event of anyone being as useless as me.

A while ago I bought one of those "new" FED 5cs. The viewfinder was oily and the meter was off by at least 1.5 stops. I felt disillusioned and put it away, but today I had another look.

I wanted to try and recalibrate the meter. The only thing I could find on the web was a suggestion that a "light meter recalibration screw" lurked behind the nameplate. If so, it escaped me - I expect they meant "rangefinder". But looking at the meter controls on the camera, I noticed that the outer dial - with the shutter speeds and cut-away - seemed slightly distorted. I undid the 3 little screws which held it on and found it had been attached directly to the metal, not to the holes provided. I simply replaced the part correctly, and bingo, the meter readings now matched my hand-held.

Maybe this could work for others with the same problem?
