Fed heaven

That's actually not a bad price, considering the rarity of the S. Of course, age doesn't appear to have been too kind to that one.

The body doesn't look in great shape, but I'm more interested in the lens and the lens looks very fine to me. :) It would be nice to have such a lens, but then again it'll cost (almos) as much as a collapsible 50/2 Leica

I hope that another fed-s will show up in a year or so and then I might be able to afford one :)

It's interesting that the Russian camera makes all seem to have a "C" model - which seems to stand for "S", since there is no "S" in Russian. Zorki had a "C" right after the original model and before the Zorki-2. I've also read in some places that the "S" stood for 'synchronization', even if the Russkis can't spell. (Yes, I know it has a different alphabet.)

I have a Zorki "C", but maybe the Feds are rare, as is the case with the Zorki-2. As for the collapsable lens, that's common on the early models of all the Russian RF's - is the FED one special??

Fed-s or fed-c (in cyrillic) is very rare, and the lens isn't just an ordinary 50/3.5 but a faster 50/2.0 and those also are rare. This is the first time i've seen two fed-s's at the same time on the bay, sometimes there is one, but mostly none can be found on the bay.

I'm an FSU rangefinder fan (actually all FSU cameras). And I would love such a lens. (second picture) I think it is absed on the Leica summitar (first picture), but I aint sure because I don't know a lot about Leica lenses.(Correct me if I'm wrong about the comparison)

Fancy. That second fed has a 1/1000 shutter speed. Curious about the lens too, I too think its a copy of the summitar.

All fed-s's have a 1/1000 shutter speed setting, I thought it was some sort of fed-2 prototype that was never commercially built, but a few hundred were built and given to the rich-important soviets. (Now that aint real communism  )
