FED Micron 2

Anyone ever used this little beast?

Despite me being a diehard Kiev-4a fan, am now considerning getting one as a second camera, for the times when a Kiev's too bulky to take (e.g. on a walk to grocery), or as a backup in case Kiev ever fails.

In particular I'd like to know what should I expect from the lens performance at 2.8, and what kind of automatic mode is there (AP?).

I always get confused by the micron 2, I keep seeing two versions on the bay, one with selenium metering and one with CdS (and looks like an ugly imitation of a minolta F). the selenium version seems to be half frame while the other is not (correct me if i'm wrong!)

I would also like to hear some info on these dinky little things :)

2 kinds

did a quick search and looks like you are right, the selenium type (which is called Fed-30 Micron) is half frame while the other is full

page with details

both look kinda cool to me, though I love half frame

I have a FED 50 - essentially a Micron-2 without the rangefinder. It is neatly compact and an ideal "pocket" camera. The Industar-81 is quite a good, contrasty lens, with performance comparable to those on similar late 70s western compacts. It resolves detail well, given the obvious limitations of a 'snapshot" zone-focussed camera. With the Micron's rangefinder to ensure accurate focussing, results should be pleasing.
