Noobie !
Hey,
I just aquired a Fed 2 type 10, and I'm a bit of a film noobie I have been shooting digital for a few years now but im a little rusty what I learned with film when I was younger and hoping to sharpin my skill with the fed.
I have a few questions about the Fed befor I start useing it.
The scale on the shutter speed, what is B ?
B & C on the shutter release ? I asume has some thing to do with the B on the shutter speed.
ROCT on the film advance knob I asume is the GOST scale ? But what does the sun light bulb and the circle with the dot on top has any usefull perpose ?
Thanks

The Sun , light bulbs etc. (Sun daylight type film etc.) are just for film types, as ManGo says don't worry about them .

I use the film types and GOST scale to remind myself of what film is in the camera.

Thanks for the info
Going to go out and pick up some fresh 200 film today and see what I can do.
BTW, What film types/brands do you like to use in the Feds for the style of photo's you do ?

Although camera bodies can influence technique, and thus the type of photograph one takes, the lens is the crucial factor. Your FED has an Industar 61, a crisp lens with good contrast, in my view ideally suited for classic 400 ASA black and white films, and perhaps at it's best when these are pushed for high contrast: some shots in my gallery illustrate this. I'm currently using Adox HPS in my FED - this site will tell you a great deal about many of the interesting films available: http://www.retrophotographic.com/films.htm

Well the guys may be being abstract.
You dont need a film reminder if you load and shoot the whole 36 load like the Fed was a Gatling (gun). You might need an exposure meter or a calculator or instead if you shoot 400 ASA in good daylight 1/250 (or 200) sec at f/16 will do for B&W. If you are careful you will use the accessory shoe to hold the box top as a more exact reminder. You can get FSU meters.
If you select a chromogenic film e.g. xp/2 you can drop off the film in the supermarket 1-2 hour turn around colour processing slot and get B&W prints or a scan back before you leave, car wash, breakfast etc...
The FED will eat 400 ASA and deserves a slow B&W this will stretch a scanner and you will then want an enlarger, (a FSU one of course) 10x8 dishes, dev tank, daylight loader, and another Ru camera, like a pre-WWII Fed 1, before the week is over. It is like your first beer or smoke, legal and addative or did I mean addictive (dyslyxia is not normally Freudian).
Perhaps I need a FED2.
The last stage is you store dsimantled cameras in 10x8 trays, your meaningful other may eventually complain or justify another pair of shoes.
