Brachal, I'm trying to understand your statement about serial #s for FED 2A being reset... my understanding is that they start with preseries and 2A continues on from those those...
Reset from the range of numbers used with the FED-1. If the cameras were all numbered sequentially, FED-2 serial numbers would start in the 800000 or 900000 range, but FED decided to use a new set of numbers with the FED-2.

As far as I can tell I have a Fed 2 (E) # 8263019. So I guess it was made between 1963-1969?
Can anyone let me know exactly what year it was made?
Also I have another question regarding lenses (Sorry I'm new here and still finding my way around). Has anyone ever attached a Helio 44 lens to a Fed 2 camera? If so how does it work? I am trying to find a new lens which will allow me to focus down to 19" (0.5m).
Many thanks.

This website:
http://www.commiecameras.com/sov/35mmrangefindercameras/cameras/fed/index.htm
categorizes the various FED2 models as 2a-2f and 2L, and gives a typical serial number for each type (but not the full range of numbers for each). Once that page opens, select FED2 on the left. You can compare this with Sovietleica's post above. Those of you who want to identify your particular FED2 camera will be able to do it with the help of the descriptive features given on this site. The same goes for any other Soviet camera, just browse around on the site until you find your's.

As far as I know the Helios 44 was not made for rangefinders. Some FSU SLRs used a 39mm screw mount, which would probably mount on the FED, but there's no rangefinder coupling mechanism.

I don't believe the Helios was made to go on the FED. It is a lens for SLR camera. If it came in M39 it is probably still for an SLR. As such the flange to film distance is wrong and it would be too close but, seeing as you are referring to this lens and want to focus down to 0.5m, it would make some sense to get one, and a small extension tube, and put an SLR on the back of it. It makes no sense to try to use a FED-2 for this purpose.

Bringing back a dead thread. I just loaded and starting shooting a camera I received yesterday for $20. It's a Green Fed-2 (A) PE0365. No flash sync, with round rangefinder window. It has a shutter depress without an additional lever. 50mm f/3.5 folding lens.
Oh wait...SN is 041657
Lens SN is 303370
