noobie here both to the forum and with rangefinders.

one question (one of maybe a million):
we have a fed3b and has a leitz 135 hektor and a leitz 90 elmar 4 (both leica screwmounts/ ltm?). when he mounts them on to the fed3b, it seems that they give him the wrong distance. is this normal? any tips?

thanks.

The Elmar 90 has a thin RF cam, the Hektar uses a "tongue" type cam, I seem to recall. Watch that the RF pickup of the FSU camera is not slipping underneath them. Best to set the shutter to "B" and look through the back of the camera- that way you can inspect the RF follower of the camera is making correct contact with the RF cam of the lens.

If they are making good contact, then likely problem is the calibration of the RF of the camera.

hi brian!

thanks for the reply and i will look into it soon.

just confirmed it. the leitz hektor 135mm 4 does have a tongue and may be hitting that sensor thing on top oth the mouth of the lens hole (somehow that sounds kinkier than it should). does that mean we cannot use it on the FED3B? should we A) sell the hektor; or B) buy a canon LTM for it?

Canon 135 ltm has a tounge like the hektar. The problem is probably the short base length of the fed 3b. Fed 2 has a longer base length and the 135 works good. I have other fsu's that have a shorter base length than the Fed 2 and won't focus to infinity. Also NEVER screw a lens that has a tounge to a bottom load fsu. They have a hook shaped cam & the tounge will catch, then you will be stuck.
