Fed4/I-50 first photo's

First shots from the not-so-perfect Fed4 with non-collapsible Industar-50 from Brian (ScotForthLad). Non-working meter, dodgy film counter etc etc.

I gave the body a cleanup weeks ago, but earlier today was the first time I've had the opportunity to give the camera/lens a test.

I did skin-of-my-teeth metering with ISO50 film. Its surprising these 2 images were even near correct exposure. It's very overcast so the other 8 images on the test roll were totally under exposed. (correct metering is 1/30 at f/2)

I understand they need higher contrast and probably a bit of levelling, but these are direct neg scans without any alterations.

Two images from the same spot, looking down towards the shed (yes, messy!), and the hose tap. I've done a crop of the full size (1200res) scan to show the sharpness of the lens at f/3.5

Just thought I'd share the love 🙂

I'm sure a few Brits here will understand why that last crop feels so typical English 😉

At least on my monitor, the contrast looks pretty good. I like the photo of the shed quite well.
I like my collapsible I-50 enough so that I'm probably going to get an M42 version so I can use it on one of my SLRs.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure there is no M42 collapsible lens but what I meant is to get one of the rigid I-50s that are available in M42 mount.

I really rate the I-50. It seems to get a poor rep because its slower. The convenience of the collapsible and the quality of the above non-collapsible show the lens is very capable, even if it's not as great as a Jupiter-8.

Nice shots Ash,good work.Glad to see that she still has some potential.I rarely if ever used anything below 1/60.(Watch out for the restriction on moving the shutter speed dial between 30 and 1--it will damage the mechanism.)
