I'll be sending my J-8 for a CLA+shimming to Leica standard next week to Fedka. Has anyone used this service? How did your lens come back?

Please be helpful, Dave, not literal.

I have no experience of Fedka's repair work, but on RFF and elsewhere I have read that it is satisfactory.

I once acquired a Jupiter-9 that was in a very bad shape. There was fungus inside the lens, focusing was very stiff and the aperture ring was completely misaligned. Fedka did a good job with it. They cleaned the glass like new, aligned the aperture ring properly and although Yuri said the helical of my lens was already very worn-out, they were able to make the focusing usable. I didn't have to wait that long either to get my lens back.

I sent a Jupiter 3 and an Orion 15 to fedka on 2 seperate occasions and both were returned both cleaner and smoother. A roll of film through them has also revealed the collimation to be well worth it with both lenses being appreciaby sharper. My experience has been that the cla service is well worth it providing me with 2 sharp and reliable lenses. It seems that with the sometimes downright shoddy build quality reshimming and re lubing can really transform these lenses into what they shoud be.
I'm sure you won't regret sending them

Sending my J-8 tomorrow. Yuri is fast, helpful, and awesome to talk to. I told him about my time constraint(vacation soon) and he says the lens will only take 3 days to CLA!

I sent him my user grade FED-S I got off evilbay last year. It had the FED 50mm f2.0 (an exact Summar copy lens) on it. Asked for a CLA and collimating of the lens to Leica specs.

The camera had been 'prepped' to be hacked into a Leica, and the lens had already partially been disassembled as well. Yuri told me, the rear lens element was in backwards! Top plate had been mechanically dechromed (i.e. chrome grinded off), as well as bottom plate. Top plate had been rechromed already, but not engraved as a Leica, when the hackers found out they were hacking up a perfectly good and rare FED-S!

The camera is smooth as butter now, the lens is clean, collimated into Leica specs and the camera is the finest user it could be.

All this with a 18-day turnaround to the Netherlands at a very modest price.

Can't possibly recommend Yuri more!

I wrote to Yuri about going on vacation and needing the lens CLA/Collimation done quickly. He quoted me 3-4 days repair time. The lens was actually worked on and completed the day after receiving it, and sent back the day after. He was also awesome and kept me informed of every step in repair, and even personally tested the lens out after repair!
