I am disappointed too as I have seen some nice results with this film. There was a learning curve to it, sure, but some folks here have done well with it.

No, they are of course not. Please stop spreading this misinformation. You are invited to come to next Photokina: I will be there, and we can ask Skiff to join us for a nice meeting there.
Concerning Film Ferrania, I can only speak for myself: The project itself = rescuing the small factory in the LRF and most of the machinery of the other factory buildings, is still very appreciated by me.
I have tested P30 and was very disappointed. I have given my test results and the reasons for my disappointment in the P30 thread.
The current market situation is very different from 2014, when they started their Kickstarter project: At that time global standard film sales were at the bottom.
Now we are in an increasing market again, and all established manufacturers are full into and committed to film production again. And newcomer Adox has made more progress in the recent years compared to FF.
As photographers we are in a much more comfortable position now: Ilford, Kodak, Fujifilm, Foma, Adox, Polaroid, Filmotec. etc give us all we need.
If FF is succesful in the coming years, joining the group of the others manufacturers - fine. I wish them well and all the best.
If not, we are loosing very, very little. And then the machines are probably bought by one of the established manufacturers.
I think we can be very relaxed.

I think we were all pretty excited about Ferrania's project back in the days and it is completely normal to feel frustrated. I know many who -as me- supported the project and now are critical about it (how couldn't be critical!?)
I don't even understand the solution they found for the backers, giving them (us) gift cards of the same value of the pledge instead of a couple of P30 films. My pledge was $40 for two 35mm rolls and they sell each P30 for $9.50.. I don't know, they must know the numbers better than me.
If we were real investors (and not "backers") they would be in bankruptcy by now, that's the beauty of kickstarter, you can scam people and get away with it.

The film is BW and really slow, but beautiful.
I guess maybe by time a $1.Million collected may reach Paris..

My opinion about Film Ferania is very different to what DanskDynamit, Jan, leicapixie, css9450 have written here:
Yes, they have failed with their original plan. They now have finally officially confirmed it. That is at least honest.
Yes, P30 is much worse in all technical parameters to all its competitors, and that at higher price.
That may change in the future with their next film, I don't know. We will see.
But I meanwhile look at it more from a historic perspective: In a time when it was hard for film in the market, this Kickstarter project was successfully funded by several thousand backers. Slogan "For 100 more years of film". That was important from a psycologic point of view. It gave hope and confidence. And was a signal to all other manufacturers to keep on and not to give up. Was it a coincidence that at the same time Eastman Kodak decided to continue with film production and signed the deal with the Hollywood studios? Who knows. But I would not be surprised if this successful campaign at least did a small part in that decision. And it was probably also motivation for Ilford, Foma, Adox to march on.

Maybe we can have a Kickstarter to raise some money to compensate those Ferrania Kickstarter backers that should've known better to "invest" money they can't miss in a "mission to Mars" project?

Thing is, to know better as an investor you need information and the information provided from Ferrania was good enough for me at least to pledge $40 which is not much anyways. You expect they had a good business plan and that they did a good research.
I really hope they completely fail and go out of business, sell the machines and with the money open a gelateria so they dont keep hurting the film industry with their P30. From each roll they sell, Kodak, Ilford, et al. sell one less.

Was that a rhetorical question? Getting over your very high risk $40 Kickstarter contribution is one way to let go of the anger, insults, and wishing hardship upon others.

Most of us who have tried crowdfunding for some bit of photo related hardware have now ‘wised up’ and will be much more cautious in the future. Yes, some delivered, but all of the initial four I’ve backed have been anywhere from mediocre to a disaster.
Then this Ethan Moses KS came along for one dollar! No way to go wrong on that one so I forgot my “never again” promise, pledged my whole $1 and have the promised files. No idea what to do with them but come on....only a buck!
Now that is what I call a successful Kickstarter.

Chances Ferrania pulling off a restart of E-6 film production were virtually one in a million. That was still better than betting on Fuji bringing back Astia or Provia 400X...
I hate Fuji and Kodak for every colour film they dropped in the last decades, but I still love them for what they still produce in the traditional colour analogue segment. And I hope they never stop...

I dont think it was one in a million, at the end they did produce some film with the machines they got from kickstarter and I remember they did say they had everything they needed to start production of E6, but we will never know what stopped them because their communication was awful and never explained anything. They have this great skill of giving updates without saying anything. They have the machinery, the expertise and raw materials so only they know why they switched to P30 instead of continuing with the project. Lack of founds it is of course one of the reasons.
I agree with you, I support the big companies, I want them to survive and keep producing film.

The whole concept of slide film is laughable..sorry.
Ever since Digital arrived, I had control of MY color.
I have not shot transparency film since the late 80's...
Color neg replaced that, later digital made life beautiful ..
It has been years and still no film..
