Ferrania to re-start film production

Cool, nice website and sharp branding too. If they put out some economical BW film through cheap mail order I'll be all over it.

Because there's hardly any BW film available anymore?! There's plenty of dirt cheap BW film that you can order from anywhere in the world. Today.

They said that they will bring back an improved version of Scotch Chrome 100 (previously made by Imation) slide film. Can't wait to see if it's any good.

Arista EDU films are the only ones I've come across and I think of as being genuinely cheap, if you have any other suggestions around a similar price I'm all ears.

Would be even better if they made a higher sensitivity version. There is no shortage of 100 iso film but there is nothing higher available in slides.

Thanks for posting that, although I am on their mailing list I did not see that link.

I think their initial offering is expected to be color film, I forgot it was a slide film. That is OK, I will gladly try it.

Speaking of cheap B & W, I am still using Arista Premium I bought last year, but that was the last 'bargain' I saw. I have to admit I have not tried the Arista EDU films, are they like Foma film?

For cheap B & W, I plan to get a roll of Kodak cinema film (once my kid is back in school and can get me the discount), and try bulk loading.

I don't know of a single BW film that is expensive.

Fuji slide film is between 11-16 EUR per roll now and Kodak BW (Tri-X/T-Max) film is 4.30 EUR in Europe. If you buy in bulk you can get BW film at around 2 EUR/roll.

I don't see a way for Ferrania to operate small scale production in northern Italy producing 1EUR/roll film.

I'm not sure what Arista EDU films are like, but there are people online who are saying that it's relabelled Foma 100. I'll buy some once I get low on my stash of Fuji Acros.

A roll of cinema film should be a really interesting, any idea on where you'd buy it from?

brbo, that's great you don't find 4.30 Euro a roll expensive but I want to shoot a lot of film and I'm a starving artist. I carry one film and one digital at all times, but recently I've really been reluctant to pull the film camera out of my bag over the digital because of the cost and (if home developing to save) time.

When doing projects in Asia I can find a fair few films under 3 euro from stores, and that's where I normally buy from. Is that possible for Ferrania to pull off that kind of pricing? I don't know, but that is what it'd take for me to shoot more film.

The Kodak cinema film is through my kid's school, really she has to buy it for me. It is still not cheap (even with 20% discount), but the images I see taken with it are stunning. I think I worked out that it would be about $4 per roll bulk loaded, but I need to do the math again. It sounds like it requires some special handling to process, it may have remjet or some lubricant you need to wash out. There are discussions here on RFF about it.

EDIT:
It can also be purchased straight from Kodak:

http://motion.kodak.com/motion/uploadedFiles/QA_MotionPictureCatalog_June26_2014.pdf

It's the 35mm Double X . Undiscounted price is $234 for a 400-ft roll. According to Roger Hicks, you need 64.5 " for a 36-exposure roll, so that works out to

400 X 12/64.5 = 74 rolls for a price of

$234/74 = $3.16 per roll, not too bad.

I'm also in, not for much, but I get a few rolls of film and more importantly hopefully help make this happen.

It makes me sick a little to think that this factory and all the gear could be demolished and sold for scrap. And I wouldn't be surprised that if this Kickstarter fails, it crushes everyone at FF and they proceed no further. Or end up doing $10-20 a roll film because their production capabilities are so limited.
