I recently received a Super Baldax with a cloudy viewfinder, is cleaning the viewfinder a relatively easy task? Does anyone have any instructions/pictures of doing it? Removing the top plate doesn't seem that difficult (assuming no screws are stuck/hidden), but is there anything else to it (or anything to be careful of avoiding)?

Also, I have a super regent which may end up as a shelf queen. The focus is stiff (but useable) but the bigger issue is that the shutter doesn't stay cocked and doesn't fully close. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Sometimes, camera designers may hide a screw under the rewind knob, or put a retaining ring around the rewind or winding shafts. Under the accessory shoe, or even visible in the shoe is another place for screws.

I think the shutter problem could be as simple as needing a cleaning, or there is a spring out of place or too weak in the lever system. If you do a proper cleaning, the true issue may present itself as you are tearing it down. Once you get the shutter cover off, you can see the action of the levers, and determine where the fault lies. Of course, since you have to remove the lens to get to the shutter, a good cleaning and re-lube of the focus helical can be done at the same time.

I shudder to suggest that this sort of thing is OK, but this is what I did with my Super Regent a few years back (and it still works):

While you're poking around in there, the lubricant that Agfa used on focusing helicals is legendary for turning into something between epoxy and super glue with age. It would not be a bad idea to clean the helical threads (Xylene seems to work well for this, lighter fluid isn't powerful enough to get it done) and relubricate them with lithium or silicone grease while you can still move them.
