Yes, often. The level of service and knowledge/helpfulness of the staff is of the highest order. I doubt if there is better anywhere. Ffordes and Robert White are often mentioned together as arguably the best British dealers.
I have used them for about 20 years. They used to be in Southend near London. IMHO, they are one of the best companies in the UK. Their gradings are very much on the conservative side and their service is excellent.
Over the last few years I have dealt with Ffordes on several occasions and have always been very impressed with quality of service received. I can give them my unreserved recommendation.
I've used them three or four times in the last few years. They're very good. They DO know how to price a second hand item though. I've never seen any real bargains, but the saving over new is worth it when dealing with such a reputable company.
I've used them many times, good to talk to and very fast delivery in the UK (where I am)
I've bought new and used kit and can vouch for both the quality of goods and the well packed bits. Not the cheapest granted but you do know you are dealing with a very good company.
Oh and I don't work there or affiliate or anything. Sorta tempted for a CV 50 for my R.... oh no not more GAS.... will it ever stop?
They do have real bargins - look in the 'Used' section for things marked 'ex demo'. I've bought Voigtlander, Pentax, and LowePro gear that is indistinguishable from new at anything from 20 to 60% discount over the past couple of years. And as everybody says, the service is excellent.
I've only had one item which I wasn't happy with and they took it back without a moment's hesitation. It didn't get relisted either. All the other items I've bought have been at least as good as I would have expected.
Also if you are in the area, well worth a detour to visit. Great cafe, and gallery, really nice staff and terrific scenery (Glen Affric) nearby!!! I'm lucky although I live 145miles away in Dundee, I have family about 5miles from them so visit as often as I can!! Nearest railway station is Beauly on the Inverness to Wick line.
😛 Oh I forgot to add, if you do visit the place, there is also a very nice distillery to visit a couple of miles away. The GlenOrd distillery interesting with nice products. Visit the camera store first though, as your eyesight may be affected later😛
At the moment the Autumn (Fall ) colours are absolutely amazing!!!
Exceedingly helpful over the phone to a friend of mine who just wanted a cheap film SLR and cheap zoom to replace a broken one that was "silver and had a dial with pictures on..."
The polar opposite of our friends in the snobbish cameras thread...
edit: oops! snobbish dealers thread - even my M4 has never looked down on me...
