fibre based printer paper?

Hey all, I have a portfolio that needs to be printed out for one of my courses. I want it to be of high quality and I was wanting to try out fibre based papers. I dont have a darkroom so i was wondering if anyone makes fibre-based papers for inkjet printers

Permajet do a fibre based glossy paper that's marketed under different brands in in different territories. I use it and it's really an excellent if expensive paper.
 
Try Innova fiba (in gloss, semimatte (my favourite) and matte).

I just got a box of Ilford/Harman FB AL gloss (the Harman paper has a baryta layer just like real photographic fibre paper). It is supposed to be superb, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. It got a review here:

They do a matte version as well, but I don't like it that much.


These papers are expensive by the way...

Crane's Museo Silver Rag is producing some amazing results for me on my Epson 2200. And I've gone every route you can imagine over the past 5-7 years in terms of B&W inkjet printing from an Epson 1160 with Cone Piezography inks to MIS bulk loaded lines on another 1160, etc. I've also got about 5 years experience in a profesional darkroom doing traditional non-digital color and B&W work back in the early 90's. This is easliy the best results I've ever gotten from inkjet. They really look the closest to beautiful darkroom prints I've ever seen.

I've used both Epson's Photo Black and MIS Pro Photo Black. I also print Black-Only.

What did you think of the Piezography inks? They look very interesting, especially the all carbon-based ink that gives warm sepia tones.

The Harmon has been getting lots of good comments on different forums. The one caveat is the fragile surface that seems to get damaged easily.

Another good source for papers is shadesofpaper.com.

I didn't notice this fragility of the Harman paper that everyone talks about. You still have to be pretty aggresive with it to scratch it as far as I can tell.

I'll 2nd this using the MIS inks

very accurate and pleasing results
