Anyone here has FILCAs in regulary use?
I tried this several times, each time I tore the film at the end out of the spool.
I guess the clasps are become a little tired over time.
Similar experiences? How to deal with it? Extra tape? Or is tighten the clasps possible?
 
Two FILCAs and four IXMOOs in regular use (2 Barnacks and one M4-2) and no problem yet. I always cut two stripes (containing the sprocket holes), length about 1cm, off from the film tip and check if it is firmly stuck into the clasp of the take up spool.

Since I have no dark-room, I use a Watson 66B loader for loading these cassettes and can check under light.
 
This might indeed help, also make sure the tip you insert into the slot is long enough to extrude just a little on the other side of the slot (that is why I cut 1cm of the sides)

The film feels always loose after inserted into the clasp but can not be retracted without braking the film.
 
remove the the two screws holding the teeth, and reposition the 'teeth' screw back. If it's too worn out, then not much can be done. No harm trying.

Looks like an older version, no screws - only rivets.

Absolutely. That's how I've always done it. Just make sure you have tape on both sides of film and around the spool of course. I'm using 'Scotch Magic' tape or similar normal thin household/office tape. Never had a problem.
 
What tj01 said. I use them all the time and sometimes the "holding" mechanism gets stuck with bits of old film. After cleaning and repositioning the insert it works again.

HuubL, you speak about IXMOO not FILCA, or?
I see only a riveted clasp at the spool, nothing insert or screws... 😕

Yes, I meant the M-type IXMOOs. But I believe the FILCAs have a similar holding thingy in the spool. I'll check my FILCAs later and get back here.
 
Just checked my FILCA, I have only one and approx. 10 IXMOOs, but the FILCA has the same spool containing the film retainer thingy.
 
Then you must have a IXMOO spool in your FILCA.
The spools of my FILCAs looks like that:

I found the shells to make a whole FILCA and had one inner shell at a camera shop The owner gave it to me not knowing what the parts were for. I was missing the spool. So I used a plastic spool from a relodable cartridge and tape. It worked...I was impressed.

I got two more FILCAs yesterday, and they have the spool described by you.
It seems that my other FILCAs are older models (they came from my grandfathers Leica built in 1934).

I have also a question about the spool of the film casettes.

How can I get the rest of the old film (which I cut from the rest of the film when I put it in the development tank) out of the spool ?

if you have cut the film off the spool, you have a triangle of film in the gap of the spool.
Rip or cut one of the two angles on the one side so, you can pull the rest through the spool in the direction of the single angle.
