Well-known
I was reading somewhere that gelatin used in film is
produced from processing cattle bones
Among the nuggets of info - don't feed the cows mustard seed, that causes the film to be exposed before its time. Young cows better than old and male better than female.
It's amazing to me that we are shooting on such a substance. It's alchemy, not just the gelatin but also the silver halide crystals mixed in and shaped just so. The mechanical camera looks space age compared to the film.
Clearly a lot of the feel of film is due to the biological and chemical artifact of capturing the image on a pudding of gelatin and silver
I think years from now we film users and film technology will be looked at like Merlin the magician
Just my thoughts on the ride home
Will digital ever look so earthy and primordial?
