Nikon branded strap on a Canon body.
1970s car with a digital speedometer?
Disconcerting "jostling and flashing" I see in contemporary music videos. Personally I find that unattractive.
Neat location in California desert. I think I've been there.
The music itself -- well I hear this style quite a bit. The song is not memorable.

Thanks, Huss. Tried a new place for processing and scanning a roll of Porta 160. The colors in the video look a lot like what I got from them.

You are no curmudgeon. The music is awful, the video is even worse. I can’t stand whenever people use graffiti and abandoned buildings to make whatever it is they are shooting edgy. This is coming from a younger person (or at least I still feel young) so no one can give me the “if it’s too loud you’re too old” spell.
Wait... am I a curmudgeon????

The placement of the film camera is no coincidence. Young artistic types have embraced film like never before! Consider that Fujifilm sold 6.6 million Instax cameras last year. Film is back and enthusiastic young photographers are shooting with it!

Second shot is definitely an FTbn, given the more compact self timer / stopdown lever.

I'm right at the age where I could be accused of "not keeping up". However, that's not the case. I'm often more current with the "music scene" than my college age son. It drives him crazy (especially during middle and high school years). One thing about being old enough to have heard thousands of musical acts -- I can easily discern the good from the bad, regardless of genre.
The song in question here is not very good.

It's not about the song...
I just thought it was cool to see the camera.

So detailed, but why get the flash part wrong...I mean, they clearly had one of these in hand to get that detailed.

I'm guessing someone at Gainax was a devoted photographer, with all the very detailed references to optics—Haruko's Mamiya binoculars and Mamimi's Olympus OM, but then again, the overt placement of the Vespa and Rickenbacker.

(You'd think my handle comes from that series but it's from an unrelated personal inside joke; nonetheless, FLCL was very influential on me as a teenager, and I still pine after a vintage Vespa)

They didn't get it wrong. The A11 flash has a pop-up button that glows orange when the flash is charged. The camera in the anime that Bill posted has its flash turned on and charged but it has not yet fired.

I think that's the "Casa Grande Domes" in Arizona.
Car, by the way, is a Pontiac 6000. Probably '84-'86 judging by the headlights and grille.

I had a 1987 Pontiac 6000STE that my dad bought for me when I was 16 years old. It was the top-of-the-line version of the 6000 and was really futuristic. It had a fully digital dashboard (all the gauges were digital, not just the speedometer), radio controls on the steering wheel, and an air compressor in the trunk with a long hose so the car could pump up its own tires!

On the Olympus XA the flash part I see "wrong" is that the aperture selector slider to the left of the lens is not in the normal flash position. Although it can be used in the position shown, all the way to the top is the position labeled "Flash". In fact, you have to move it to the "Flash" position at the top to make the flash turn on and the button pop up. So obviously the slider was moved all the way to the top to turn on the flash and then moved to the mid position shown in the picture. Of course we're critiquing an anime and not real life here.
