Film counter fully blacked out

Hey team,

I've had a supplier track me down a G2 kit which is in amazing condition save for one small detail... The film counter has blessed so much that it's completely blacked out.

Has anyone ever seen this repaired ?

Or does anyone have a work around ?

Part of me says ah whatever I'll just always carry an extra roll but having trouble making the call to buy it with such an annoying fault.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Simplest workaround is not to worry about being surprised when you run out of film...

Seriously, not the worst fault with any camera.

You'd best find out who repairs these cameras and if parts are still available. The LCD is not the only part - there is usually a display circuit board upon which it resides. If there are no more of these replacement parts, then you're going to be out of luck.

That's why a lot of us stick to purely mechanical cameras.

My top LCD started failing and I had my G2 repaired by Nippon Photo Clinic in NYC (it comes back tomorrow!) I originally sent in the camera for an AF problem but they found that the LCD was starting to fail. The parts for the LCD was $165.50.

If the price is adjusted to take the fault into account then I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Plus you should always know roughly how far through a roll you are. Like you said... always have a spare roll to hand.

Counters are a fault area in all Kyocera cameras.
Digital or mechanical display... it’s a weak link.
My first Yashica FR has had a dead counter since 1985.... i bought it in ‘83.
Still has good speeds, great finder, and keeps the film in the dark until it’s time to expose it..
