For those of you who do not develop your own film, where is the best place to send your rolls to get developed? local, snapfish etc.

I have rolls of both to develop. I went to a local place that was charging around $12 but snapfish says they do it for $2.99. I would rather support a local business but the price difference is big. I am also afraid of the amount of time it will take snapfish to develop the film. It took them 3 weeks to send me my mailers.

I wouldn't bother with commercial processing of b/w silver films. I'd use Kodak BW400CN, which is a C41 film and goes through with colour neg material.

If you get silver films processed commercially, they generally use a "one size fits all" developer and time (b/w film does not have a standard dev time, unlike colour) which gives something printable but extracts very little of thje film's potential image quality.

I take my C-41 to Walgreens drug store, where thay put it through their 1-hour machine, and it turns out very nicely - for $3 a roll. Prints and scans are more, but I do that part myself. They are good about special instructions. I generally get it developed, but uncut so I can pit it in my own sleeves. The DO roll it up, and put it back into the plastic case the cassette comes in, so I inverse roll it for a while to take out the induced curl.

I have begun to develop 120 sized C41 myself, and am happy with the results so far. And of course I develop silver B&W myself, but I have friends who take it to TCR Imaging in Temps. They will push/pull on request, but it usually takes them a few days to get it done. I take any E6 film there as well.
