The APX is around that price from suppliers in Germany (eg. Maco, but likely others too). And you can buy in 50's to get a better discount if you want (I just bought 70 rolls ). Happily, they also stock Rodinal. I'm not sure about suppliers over the pond though.

What's too expensive? How do you define it?
Shooting a roll of film takes me about two hours, developing it another half hour in my basement, and maybe making one good print, another hour.
That's 3 1/2 hours of quality entertainment, and right now it costs me maybe seven bucks for everything from the film to the final print in my hand. What would it cost if I had spent those hours at the movies? Or at a restaurant or bar?
This is cheap entertainment, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. No need for "endless money", any more than there is a need for endless money for digital photography, with the hard drives, cards, printers inks and paper.
It's all good.

Recently got back to shooting film after doing it briefly when I was a teenager. Between then and now (in early thirties) it was all digital. But the satisfaction from shooting film and looking at what you get with zero photoshopping is unbeatable to me. Anyway, long live film.

Just saw this thread -- yikes, you guys don't mess around. Film "survivalists"? Next, someone will build an underground bunker to stock with film and chemicals! I'm just jealous that I don't have the cold storage capacity.

If film ever does die, I'm just hoping that some of you freezer guys need to eat once and a while and free up a brick or two.

Actually, instead of swapping around gear to often it would make more sense to stock up film in the freezer ... but on the other hand, space is limited, not all films can be kept frozen for a long time and I like testing new gear ...
