Film from ebay vendor Collect888...don't bother

On November 2, I placed an online order with "Collect888" thru his online store, rather than through ebay for 20 rolls 36exposure Elitechrome 100 film. I paid with PayPal, and got a receipt.

After about three weeks and no film, I contacted him. Got a form email back, relating to email problems, and that he was shipping out a lot of orders. Another week went by, no film, emailed him again, another "form" type reply. Posted my gripes on an APUG form, got a lot of feedback about his "flaky behavior". He saw my post and emailed me.

Finally, today I got a package from him. Instead of 36 exposure, it is 24 exposure rolls, and not just "out of date" but REALLY "out of date", as in expired in 2002. I am very unhappy and I doubt I can get recourse on this, so I will just chalk it up to experience, and will never,never,never trade with Collect888 again, but others should know about this, and that is why I am posting this here.

The original item on his website is not there anymore, so I can't prove 36 exposure is what I ordered. And....it is beyond the 45 day limit for complaining on Paypal.

There certainly is a record and recourse. Simply due to the fact that the time limit has been passed, ebay/paypal keep records, always...

Although listed 30 days to leave feeback, there is a form if you goto the "map" or something or other for the site that you fill out in order to leave feedback after the fact.

Regardless, contact ebay and paypal for your options.

I am a patient and understanding person as well, however, this type of behavior is bad. Bad for business for those of us who do it online.

It takes only one of these stories to ruin it for the whole and majority who are genuine.

Unfortunately, in this case I cannot contact Ebay, because I didn't purchase the film through ebay. I purchased the film through this vendors online store, which is independent of ebay (afaik). In paying through paypal there is a receipt for payment on record, but the description of the goods sold is not present. One lives and learns.

Unfortunately I think this experience is typical with this seller.

About a year ago I won his *Bay auction for ten 120 rolls
of Agfa APX100, a film by then I could find nowhere else.
I paid promptly but it took over two months to get the goods. 🙁

Whenever there is any question about a Paypal transaction, I use my credit card (rather than my bank account) as the funding source. Fortunately I haven't had to do this but in the event of a problem, I can dispute the charge with Visa.
 
FWIW years ago *Bay and Paypal wouldn't make good on an item
I won from a bad seller, so I disputed the charge with Visa.
Since Visa stiffed them, Paypal froze my account; they say I owe them $150.
I haven't used Paypal since... 🙁 🙂
