Film from lab - what happened?

Wow - Thanks for all the replies! Much appreciated.
I have not seen the negatives yet, I am on my way to pick them up. The shop said the spots seem embedded in the emulsion, and they cannot be washed off. All negatives are affected, but I need to see if that pattern varies from image to image.
The camera was a Bessa III / 667, so a rather new model. I exposed a role of Portra 400 just prior, that turned out perfectly fine.

I will send some of the images to Ilford to see what they say!

Ah - Bessa III 667 - leaf shutter.

If there is some sort of debris in the emulsion, I wonder whether a careful washing could remove it. I also wonder about the source of this debris.

My film was from the affected batches and Ilford has offered films to compensate. Having used Ilford ever since I started with film and given their commitment to the medium this will not keep me from using their products in the future. Bummer, yes, but, things happen. Would love to retake the images (I ended up living in the city I took the images in on vacation trip), but I have sold all my MF gear in the meanwhile (not foreseeing the price hike of MF gear). Life goes on.
