I must say I am quite lucky in Singapore.
We have slides/ neg C41 & B&W films readily available here in Singapore.
I mostly buy bulk B&W films from my local shop here & load them myself. Self process as well.
For C41, there is a shop in my neighbourhood that can get it done in half a day but its 5mins walk from my place, so no complains.

Magazines (for the most part) cover stuff the majority of folks are interested in. That's how they sell magazines. The majority of folks have no interest in film. When you see a Kodak or Fuji ad in a magazine, it is rarely film they are pitching. Simple economics from a magazines's point of view.

Really, it's much simpler than that. There just aren't anything like as many new films to test. Or anything like as many new film cameras. To pretend otherwise is a bit like a plate user complaining that plates weren't tested much after 1955 or so.

I'm surprised that Pickett Wilson hasn't jumped on this thread - especially considering you employed the key words 'film' and 'dead' in conjunction with a multitude of exclamation marks in your title.
Perhaps there should be a new category titled 'film ain't dead, i just can't buy it from the local shoppingcenter' for these threads that will likely appear on a weekly basis.
I'm still drowning TRI-X in Rodinal on a semi-regular basis, so from my neck of the woods it is still carving out a slender existence.

The best camera is one that still works!

Which is pretty well what Pickett just said ... they (film and cameras) aren't worth reviewing or writing about because the majority of the great unwashed just aren't interested any more! I can't see too many people hovering over an an article about the new Ektar when there's a test on the latest Canikon that shoots twelve frames per second at 12500 ISO on the next page!
It's a somewhat self perpetuating cycle sadly ... I think!

I don't want to sound like an ad but...
I send my stuff to Photo Continental in Brisbane in one of their reply paid envelopes and it get's sent back to me within a few working days for a very reasonable price ($3.50 to develop a roll of C41 plus a small postage fee), with another reply paid envelope for next time.
They did some E6 in 120 the other day, dropped off mid morning and was ready by 1600.
About the same over here, $6/7 E6 plus $3 dev with B+W at 75% of this.

Can one not see the posts of someone on their “ignore” list? I always wondered how it worked

You see that they have posted but under that it says "______ is on your ignore list".
It's quite handy because it makes it easy to ignore people whose sole interest is being unpleasant, and who have nothing useful to contribute.

I just tried it, and I see now … I’d not used it previously and wasn’t sure Jaans could see Pickett Wilson’s post

Totally off topic, but I actually had to subscribe to Shutterbug a couple of months ago, even though it is mangled by the mail system, when Wal-Mart here stopped carrying it in the magazine section. About all you can find in magazines now at Wal-Mart features busty babes draped over pimped-out four-wheel drive vehicles.

No, we DO review them. It's nothing to do with 'worth'. There just aren't many new films to review any more. Or new film cameras. This is the third time I've tried to get this across. WE REVIEW WHAT'S AVAILABLE.

Our local Kodak one hour now doesn't crank the C41 machine up until after midday to save on running costs ... drop a film off at nine in the morning and it's a minimum four hour wait!![]()
I don't pity you at all keith, I have to drive an hour to brisbane just to get my 120 film developed. No one on the sunny coast even does 120. While I'm down in Brissie I always get my 35mm done if possible too - the local lab that does it here (only one left on the coast I believe) treats my developed c41 negs like a rubbing compound or something... I get them back and it's almost like they're done everything in their power to destroy them.

As a Brit the first time I went in a Wal-Mart in the early 90s it felt very alien indeed we had nothing that eclectic or large here, now our supermarkets are very like Wal-Mart, and the mags are starting to go the same way as yours.
In the 80s I could get Zoom in WH Smiths

Magazine racks are scary places these days ... intellectual wastelands generally!
Did Roger say some thing I should have read just now!
Just pulling your leg Roger ... it's the Oz way doncha know!

That's a bummer Gavin ... I've been developing a fair bit of colour C41 of late ... about six rolls in the last couple of weeks in fact and I've come to the conclusion that it's easier and more reliable result wise than conventional black and white!

sad reality is most people ride cars now so more car magazines that review the latest cars rather than horses. athough it's still much cheaper to get a horse. but then again, ride your horse down 42nd st. and try looking for honey and hay..

True, I specifically remember Shutterbug testing Rollei film when it was new, and of course Ektar.
Recently a magazine actually compared Ektar with a couple of other films which are currently on the market. I think it was View Camera.

I used to like B&W Magazine from the UK. That was the last photo mag I was buying, till they also dropped (or at least greatly reduced) their film content. The darkroom stuff was really interesting too. When I started buying it, it sold for $8.65 CAD, which was just a bit expensive, but I considered the content well worth the price. The price is now $10 (I believe) and the content I'm looking for isn't there. So, saves me 10 bucks a month.
Cheers
