Film is getting expensive

I was just in my local photo shop (lab) in Bangkok and I compared the prices for a 5 pack of Kodak Portra 160 and 400 in 35mm and 120 and B&H is only about 4 USD cheaper and that's not including shipping. Bangkok is an amazing city to shoot, buy and process film.

Cheers, michael

Michael,

I am jealous. I find Canadian prices are too expensive to keep using film. With the drop in the Canadian $ buying from the States does make sense any more.

When are you going to post to the Myanmar thread? I love that thread.

Hello Maiku,

I was thinking about this thread earlier today while I was in my local lab and started to google film prices at B&H and then converted the local prices and I was actually surprised how cheap Kodak Portra is here.

I don't shoot Portra in 35mm, but I do shoot some in 120 and I picked up a couple of rolls today. I shoot Kodak Pro Image 100 in 35mm and I pay about 3.10 USD a roll for that film so I was quite surprised when I read this thread about much film costs in different places around the world.

As far as the Myanmar thread goes, I admit I have been lazy as far as posting photos in that thread goes. I am actually planning another trip to Myanmar in the next couple of weeks. So hopefully I will post some more photos soon.

cheers, michael

I have bought a number of cheap bulk loaders. I can get Foma 200 here in Australia for $57 (AU) per can ($42 US). This works out at less than $3.50 per 36 shot roll. It is also a great film to work with.

Now many people would not hesitate to spend at least that on a cup of coffee (or two, or three) per day and think absolutely nothing of. Or insert here beer or snacks to suit. If I was to use 2 rolls per day everday, I am still below many peoples coffee allowance.

In other words, I happy to pay as much for my beloved hobby as I am for my coffee.

Cheers - John
