Film Processing

The tech at Walgreens here was telling me they had a meeting and was probably going to quit developing film in some of the smaller markets. But with that they raised the price both for developing and scanning.

No, no machines, I just use my normal Patterson tank and this kit:

Only reason I picked this is because its cheap and it comes in powder form which means they can ship it overseas. If you use and store it properly (in air-evac bottles and in a cool place) it keeps about 2 months and does 30 rolls of 35mm or 15 of 120/220 with no noticeable drop in quality.

I've used the same kit. I only did my own color development because I wanted to shoot some color 120 film but it's expensive to send out for processing. So I gave it a shot to see what would happen. It really is almost as easy as b/w.

I'm getting ready to take a photo vacation and shoot probably 30 rolls. Mostly black and white, 1/3 color. Walmart and Walgreens don't do very good with B&W. Is there a mail in place that is recommended? I won't be in a hurry, I just want cheap and reliable processing. Before someone suggests developing it myself, I don't have a clean enough environment. My washroom efforts with 35mm have failed pretty badly. But I also don't want to pay the local B&W place the 8 bucks to develop a roll.

Kits with blix do not work because the bleach is not 100%. If you do them side by side , you can tell.

I like to develope film, C-41 and B&W. Mix my own D76, make my own prints. I abhore the ideas of some one else doing my prints.

I understand color paper sheets for RA4 is no longer made, all designed or lazer printing.
Therefore I will have to scan and get lazer prints or ink jets made by someone.

another vote here for doing c-41 at home. I use the unicolor kit and it is very user friendly. Once the chemicals are up to temp, its quicker than processing with diafine and fixer.

Where the hell is that digi cassette thingy (promissed years ago) that you drop into any film camera to give you the choice of Film or dig. There's a billion cameras 'out there' just waiting for it.

(No not the the 'digital module R' )which I might suggest was designed by John Smith.
Not the late politician (RIP) but the captain of the Titanic !

Oh, that thing? It went down with the Lusitania. (No, don't blame Leica for that...)

Fuji Crystal Archive (not crystal archive digital) ist also designed for RA4 and still available, in Germany company MACO (www.macodirect.de) announced its availability, though its not yet listed in their onlineshop.

it is a shame Keith you choose to be so offensive quite honestly. Where ever PW is I hope he is well. Maybe on an island laughing at us at this very moment loving his 5d Mark something or other. But no, you are way off base.

I think we need a moderator to moderate the comments of the moderator we already have. We don't expect flaming from that direction!

Of course not. There again it was a German submarine and they got that right 'first time'.

Seriously though the thought of sneaking my MP2 out of the bank vault and using it again professionaly as it was always intended to be and with a digital back on it seems rather cool and a tribute to Leica's enduring appeal
