YMMV, of course.

A local CVS drugstore had the usually pricey Kodak Professional Ultra Color 400 UC 3-pack on sale, for those who show their "CVS Extra care" frequent shopper card (free). Regular price for the 3-pack is $14, marked down to $11.

Use the printable Kodak promo coupon found here for another $2 off:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/consumer/film/specialOffers_en.jhtml?pq-path=9/7010/6951

Final price, $9 plus tax for 3 36-exp rolls.

I'd heard a lot of good things about this film, but always thought it too expensive to try out, when I could find it at all.

The store had 400HD film 3-packs on sale as well, for $10. The coupon mentioned above also works for HD and BW 3-packs.

Happy shooting!

that was the film that I bought at Target for $5 a 3-pack about 6 months ago when they sold out their entire inventory of it.. not bad stuff.. I wish I had more, but I burned through 24 rolls in about 2 months

Thanks for the heads up! And the link to the on-line cupon!
Rob
Edit: I just looked at the Kodak offer and it's fine except that they want me to let some software be installed to print the cupon. No thanks, Kodak.
But thanks for the CVS heads up even so!

Don't know about the High Definition stuff (damn, I know things are desperate in Rochester, but let's come up with better names!). The UC is the real deal, though - it's what I use alongside Portra 160NC when I need something for lower-light action, and it took a while before I decided to try it, film-speed neocon that I am. Could be the best color-neg stuff ever from the yellow-box gang.

My local photo supply shop tells me that this HD stuff is what used to be called Royal Gold. I've had many good results with the ISO 100 & 200 stuff. Can't get the 100 anymore.

Joe, that's an amazing price, for any film! That's around the time I stumbled on another chain store clearing out juicy Kodak EBX for $2 a roll. So, anyone have UC samples in their gallery?

rbeimer, you're welcome! Yes, I remember a lot of to-do to get the coupon. In the old days, there used to be a "just mail it to me" option. Apparently one reason for the to-do is to prevent me from printing another copy of the coupon. Seems rather stingy for a company not worried at all about the death of film.

Yup, it's in the small print. Pretty pathetic for a $2 coupon..........

But thanks for the HU, I'll probably swing by my local store and pick up a few packs.

BTW, for anyone who likes AGFA, Walgreen's has their brand (made by AGFA) color ISO 200 film in a special 2 pack (8 rolls) for $5.99.

Yep, pretty much gone now, but I have a pile of it in the fridge next to my even better Fuji Reala CS rolls. I really do like the Agfa, but there's something about that Fuji that just works for me. I feel like I get saturated color on plants, landscapes, etc while still getting decent non-saturated color on skin tones.

Your milage _will_ vary 😀

all thumbs.. here are two sets shot with 400UC, scanned in at the local costco (didn't have a scanner at the time):

Thanks, jano. That's some electric yellow, there. I think I'll like the look overall though. I wonder how it would take to filters?! Can't wait to try it--all these people talking up UC makes me think I should get more while it's cheap.

btw, is that a banana in your... oh, never mind...

I *kinda* like this film. The problem is that I find that I can get similar colors with the Fuji Superia films...so I wasn't really impressed. It's a good film, but way more than I'm willing to pay to get results I could get with a $2.50 roll of Fuji.

I like Superia as well, in some situtations it looks a lot like UC, but all around I think the UC has more punch and edge. It's a matter of personal taste. I posted THIS on my blog on Thursday, a Canon lens comparison, and coincidentally (and unintentionally) a UC/Superia comparison. Not the best examples (I've got lots of UC examples!).

If you forego the download and continue with the program, it will send you the coupon via mail.
This is a great film, but can be very contrasty. Terrific for flowers and senics. The 100 is even better but not always easy to find.
