Film Scanner Ideas

Yeah, I'm thinking about the Minolta IV for an X-Mas present for myself, too....
BTW, my brother (who was not interested in photography at all until a couple of months ago...) just bought the brand-new Epson F3200 (which can also scan MF negs) - too bad he lives too far away so that I could use it on a regular basis.

I've heard good things about the Epson F3200 but unfortunately it's not available here in the U.S. yet. :(

Yep that's a big difference, biber. The Epson F3200 is a film scanner so you would think it will be better than the flatbed. You can get the 3200 dpi Minolta Scan Dual IV for about $250 (new) here in the U.S. and that scanner looks like a cost-effective choice.

I find that it pays to have both an Epson flatbed and a Minolta Scan Dual. I have the Scan Dual IV and the older Epson 2400 PHOTO with the optional adapter kit for 4x5 / 120 roll film. I could not afford a dedicated medium-format film scanner, but I could afford these two. Together, they do what I need. And with 120 in 6x9 format, even 2400 dpi looks pretty darn good. I love newer/better tech, but at the moment, the only reason I'd get rid of my older 2400 PHOTO flatbed would be if I wanted to make some really big blowups of some 120 film.
