Ok i dont know if anyone has asked this yet, and if they have im sorry for reposting.

what are the film settings you guys use?

im looking to mimic something along the lines of Velvia and Provia for color

and possibly Acros or Tmax for B/W. anyone know how to mimic a certain film?

Darth,

I see no one else has answered you yet, so let me give it a go. I have found that since I shoot 90% RAW that the camera settings make no difference, so I generally do all this kind of film emulation work in PS. The Epson RAW converter does have some options, such as "Vivid" for color and then you can after-the-fact emulate the different B&W filters and other mono/sepia type finishes. Mostly, I have the R-D1 set to show B&W on the LCD but (as mentioned) save in RAW. Output is a mix of color and B&W depending on the image etc.

For in-camera JPEG settings, I usually tend to up the saturation a bit and the contrast. I have also used some of the Fred Miranda PS actions (holdover from when I still shot Nikons D1X & D2H). I particularly like the Digital Velvia and the B&W conversions. Whatever method you use (RAW/JPEG), I think you'll find that post-processing in PS is the best way to go.

Hope this helps,

Ciao,

Simon

thank you simon, i agree with what you said, and when i shoot raw for a large print i know the settings dont matter because i alter in PS. the thing is, i just got the R-D1, i shoot with a canon 10D, and when editing RAW i use the adobe camera raw plug-in, i currently don't have the epson raw plug in, and i am unable to locate a downloadable copy of it.

i cant wait to get a bigger SD card ( i only have CF haha!) and shoot some raw!!!
