Film speed advice for Oz light

My standard is 400 asa (triX/Arista/Neopan Presto 400/Legacy Pro 400). In the cities it works fine as with sun you have some rather extreme contrasts and when in the "outback" or tropical regions you will be tempted to use yellow/orange filters anyway. The Australian light is something to behold! Nowhere else do you have extremes like that. Nice country, good beer and great people.
Some 100 or 50 asa is always good to carry along, but will most likely end up shooting mostly 400 anyway.

Oh that low top shutter speed of the Ms.

Wish you could go up to 1/6000 sec and then you could use Kodak 400 VC/UC all day, winter and summer, and night.

I've lived in Perth for 3 years. Winter is a mix of wet and dry days - rain is forecast for the next 7 days from Sat 18 July. So probably some entirely overcast, grey days with not much light about at all, and some days of sunshine & showers with fairly bright light. A selection of 100-400 film would probably do.

if you are familiar with zone system you might find that film actually lose some speed in Australia quite often. As the shadows are darker, the details inside tend to be a lot weaker, so you might have to down-rate films somewhat. There again most photographers these days are midtone- or highlight-biased anyway it might not be as great an issue.
