Every now and then, I find something actually on sale. The Medium Dispatch bag by Filson is one of those on sale for $99 in black, brown or dgreen.. Anyone using a similar bag by Filson?

Haven't used a Filson bag, but swear by their clothes here in the frigid North. Besides being warm they are incredibly long wearing- I have a wool vest I've worn nearly every day mid October thru early April for 20 years. It is just now starting show some wear. The bags have quite the same reputation- and the oil cloth they use is extremely sturdy. My woods work chaps are at least ten years old and are in fine shape.

I am not using this brand, but if you have to unbuckle the front to open the bag, I would personally go crazy. The fishing bag type of closure, like used on the Billingham is brilliant in my opinion.

I use the smallest Filson field bag and it is well broken in and useful for carrying a Leica M and an extra lens and film. The buckle is easy to do with one hand.

I've used the Filson medium field bag with either a Domke body wrap or a Tenba satchel insert. I never bothered to buckle the straps as I never felt my stuff would fall out. I found the bag a bit on the heavy side, but it sure wears very slowly. I didn't quite make it to 1 million miles on travel though 🙄

I have used the filson med field bag for years. I use an old billingham inster to pad cameras.
the one you show is part of their new line of lower priced items. I swear by filson and own lots of it but I am a bit suspect of the newer stuff until proven...maybe 25 years or so 🙂
as an aside.....if you find one beat up on e bay grab it then return it to filson for repair at no charge...they are happy to do it

I can recommend the original made-in-US Filson medium field bag. (The imported Filson above is pretty much like any other bag on the market.)
It depends on what you want. The difference with the original Filson bag is that it is not a camera bag. It's a real field bag. Mine carried 5-6 boxes of shotgun shells for 14 years through marshes, etc before becoming camera bag about 7 years ago. But, you might not need that strength in a camera bag.
The mouth, under the large flap closes in so your shells don't fall out, unlike camera bags so you can leave it unbuckled. The buckles are 'loose' and open and close quickly. When I pull the insert, it makes pretty good luggage.

The bag you picture here is certainly sturdy, but it is also substantially heavier than the newer one. Lighter is better.

Dang, these Filson bags appear indestructible!😎 Would be great for my fly-fishing and hunting excursions.
Just checked the sizes, and they are a little larger than what I need and, well, not quite appropriate for shooting a political event, wedding or such. Here is a small bag for just $69... might be just right for a RF camera.

Had the that bag and gave it away. It was not real "Filson" in my opinion. Very light. Soft. Nylon-like material.
I use their BRIEFCASE COMPUTER BAG for work and like it. Not a good camera bag in my opinion, but it depends on your needs.

Another Filson medium field bag and rucksack user. Both can take a ton of field abuse, but overbuilt and heavy (relative to other bags, as mas mentions) for many, I would guess.
Another durable but lighter option for those who don't mind buckles are Duluth Pack bags. Here's what I've been using:
