Hi all

First I had a look at those summitar filters on auction.
Then I cursed one full minute about the F &^$!#^% ing insane prices for these pieces of uncoated glass.

I want to try something, and I am pretty sure someone has already thought about it:
why not buy a cheap summitar filter with bad glass, pull out the glass and glue a decent MC 39mm filter on the summitar filter mount ??

is it doable?

Thanks

Yes,sanmich, of course it's doable and I've done it several times-- not necesarily with the Summitar filter holder but with several other Leica filter holders....All you do, if I remember correctly -- after you get the filter holder you want-- is to gently unscrew the filter retainer and remove the filter...Then, as I have done many times, you take the old filter or a piece of cardboard of the same diameter to a local optometrist...It should not cost more than, say, $5 usd...You then drop the new filter in the housing, screw in the retaining ring and you now have a Summitar filter...

There's also an adapter made by Leitz (I got mine luckily together with a filters collection..) that screws on as a 'normal' filter to the Summitar and accepts 39mm filters on the other side!
