maybe i'm just not being as resourceful as i could be, but i just can't find this info anywhere. how can you use filters on a MF folder, like a zenobia, nettar, solida or ikonta? i know i've seen pix of these cameras sporting filters or hoods, but can't seem to find info on determining which will work and how. i've seen the suggestion of 'series' filters (like 'series v'), but can't find enough info there either.

any help appreciated!

thanks,
justin

Series filters and hoods are a good idea for older cameras. The only part that changes from camera to camera, if necessary, is the adapter ring. the pictures show a Balda and Zenobia with the same series 6 hood. The third picture shows the two adapter rings and the one hood. The Balda takes 40.5mm screw-in accessories and the Zenobia takes A32 slip-on accessories. I am able to use the same set of hoods and filters on lenses from a 28/3.5 Serenar on a Leica M4-2 to a 105/3.5 Nettar Anastigmat on a 6X9 Nettar. The only camera/lens that I have that I can't seem to adapt to Series 6 is an Olympus Pen S. The adapters and hoods are readily available from ebay and dealers that sell older cameras.

excellent advice

excellent advice

directly useful advice and pictures! thanks a million. i've ordered some adapters for series 6 (since those filters are easier to come by than A32) for everything from my zenobia to my solida I. none of mine have screw threads, and i was only finding adapters with threads until you mentioned slip-on and put a pic of a 31.5mm adapter. that made the search yield just what i needed. excellent. can't wait.
thanks again,
justin

filter adapters.

filter adapters.

Series 6 thread is 44mm. Once you have series 6 adapter, get an adapter from 44mm to any size commonly used today and you're good to go. That's what I did. I've tried to use series 6 filters initially, but quality of the older ones wasn't up to par. Also, note, that series 6 filters are not threaded and thus require retainer rings to hold them in place.

While it's true many of the older filters aren't usable now, some, like Leitz are very usable. Some, Ednalite comes to mind, are actually coated. Most series size filters are so cheap, it's possible to buy a set just to get one good one and/or the hood you need. The series 6 hood and adapter ring will also hold the filter, no retaining ring needed.

Right.
Retaining ring would be needed though, when filter is used without the hood.
