Hi

I've done some google about this issue and found some methods about how to repair it. Does anyone have some diferent method or recomendations about this?
It's not very relaxing to start hammering the lens...

Thanks

The special pliers run about $35.

Many camera repair shops will also charge a reasonable fee for filter dent removal. They have already made the investment and know how to use the tools.

Hi, can anyone please point me in the right direction for some tips on how to straighten these out? I bought an Oly RC, the ring is quite dented in one area. It looks tough to fix, it isn't dented from the side, but looks like it met its demise head-on.

It wasn't a big deal when I first bought it, but now I'm thinking it would be nice to be able to use the camera for B&W, ergo it would be nice to be able to use a filter for that. Buying special tools isn't really a very viable option for me. I'm just trying to weigh the risks of leaving it as is, trying to do it myself, and having some repair folks fix it. Our local repair folks (at least those I've talked to) do it by just "tapping" the ring with wood. I suppose they'll probably do a better job than me since they have experience.

Kat,

You could try to drill a hole slightly bigger than the filter on to a wood block using a hole saw. Cut the block in half or just drill a half hole. Then place the filter ring on the cutout. Using a wood stick to push against the dented area. This should work in most situation. If you don't want to get your hand dirty, www.micro-tools.com has a ready made set.

Thanks, Jason! I've been googling and that seems to be the best way to go for those without tools. I just hope the "teeth" of the ring aren't too damaged.

Hi Kat

I've fixed my filter ring dent with a plier, a old tshirt and very carefully. I've folded a old cotton t-shirt around the filter ring in a way that the plier doens't crunch the ring "teeth". Then with the plier and in several attempts i've bend the dent to the place. But i think this will not work in major ring dents. In my case it has worked and now i can screw a filter with no problems. Good luck for your repairs.

Thanks, Luf. The camera isn't here yet, but from what I could see in the pic, it seemed major...

I'll wait and see, I suppose. Worst case, I can live without filters.
