I know this may be a sore subject. I'm wondering about the propriety of a UV filter on my 35 'lux. I intend to use it only in tough weather situations, i.e., high winds, etc. How much will it extend into the viewfinder? Does anyone have experience with this issue? Also, anyone know of a vendor w/ a good selection of Leica filters? E46 silver in particular..

As the filter is on the front of the lens and within the lens-hood it will not be of any influence on your image in the viewfinder. Leica filters are rebadged, expensive filters. Hoya and B&W are very good quality, but Heliopan is a notch better. If you insist on a chrome filter, I think you will be stuck with Leica. Of course the lettering on the filter will be the same style as your lens, if you want to be that puristic...

B+W has a series of chrome filter with MRC (multi resistant coating). They are certainly as good as it gets and MUCH cheaper than the Leica UVa filters. The only disadvantage: there is an engraving saying something like "Digital Pro" (this only means they are mounted in chrome. Optically they are identical to the black B+W filters without this stupid engraving). If you compare prices make sure you compare prices for the MRC versions! I didn't :-(

I'm glad I asked.....
