I keep all DNG files in an external backup drive, their processed jpgs in my PC, I hardly ever print photos anymore, I prefer to look at them or show them to friends through computer screens (and the internet), like in the old days with transparencies. So what exactly am I going to do with huge 18Mp size photos coming out of the M9? Will they shine more on my 1900x1200 screen?

What will you do when you renew your drive or PC? Trow away your pictures?

Is your question serious? "Will they shine more on my 1900x1200 screen?" compared to what? M8?

Why do you keep the DNGs then and not only the jpgs?

I will simply keep them. But computerfiles you have to put into another computer and after you're gone, nobody will do that for you.

BTW: some years after my father passed away, my mother threw away all his negatives.

If someone in the future is interested in your photos, they will care for your digital files. The same applies to negatives. If your children/grandchildren are interested, they will care for negatives. If not, negatives will be stored in the attic and 10 years later thrown away.

Btw. I believe all those things around digital pictures (long time storage, file conversion, etc.) will be commodity services in 5-10 years. As long as you are interested, you pay for it and someone else does the job.

If you display your stuff only on computer screens, the M8 is major overkill. There is certainly no reason to buy into the M9.
