Final rinse

replace distilled water for the final rinse?

NO, that onlty takes particles out, but no minerals.
The minerals are the ones that create marks when the film dries.

Wintoid, I guess you have the same disgustingly hard water in London as we have in Reading.

I've found using Brita filtered water for the final wash (with the wetting agent / Fairy) leaves next to no marks on my film. I was using the filtered water just for the chemicals before but then realised I was being stupid by ruining that effort by washing it with tap water.

We have well 'ard water in London as you'd expect. I assume we're talking about film here, so my final rinse is a dunk in photoflo made up with filtered water. I dump this after 5 or 6 rolls have been through it. I went through a horrendous time with water marks last winter before hitting on this. Now my negs are sparkly (shame about the pictures 🙂 ) when before they were dull due to a film of London tap water.

Hmm Brita eh. Interesting. At the moment I'm getting flawless results (technically speaking, not artistically speaking) by using distilled water bought from Robert Dyas. I lug 5 litres of it home from work with me every month or two, but if I could avoid that by using a Brita filter it would be worthwhile. One to think about, thanks!
