I gave in and ordered the SC 35/2.5 lens and a VC Meter II from Mr. Gandy for my Keiv-4. My credit line is whimpering, but it's going to be fun comparing it and my Jupiter-12! And even more fun to have the right exposure :bang:

He'll ship this week so hopefully I'll be able to test this weekend (crosses fingers).

Whee!

Congrats !!! The 35/2.5 is a sweet lens, and I've been thinking about the same for my own Kievs but it probably has not much sense to have the same lens in two different lens mounts. The fact that I'm broke probably adds to that as well :)

OTH, if the Contax-LTM adapter becomes a reality... hmmm...

Thanks for the encouragement folks.

So, does anyone have a source of sane priced 43mm filters? Looks like Hoya (YIKES! Major $$$) is the only one making them right now...

I'm thinking my main grab-as-I-head-out-the-door bag is going to be this 35, my collapsable Sonnar 50/2 and my Jupiter-9 85/2 for awhile. (and of course the all use different filters.. :p ) Need to find a 85 finder now too...

Sigh - does this virus ever heal??? :D

william,
keep an eye on ebay as 43mm filters pop up there with some regularity.
i have a 100 finder you can have cheap if you can't find an 85 at a reasonable cost. i find the 85's are pricier than the 100's for some reason.

Got my box from Mr. Gandy today! My, what a pretty little lens. And that meter is tiny! Got a roll of Kodak BW400CN in it, so off to play.

I'm going to have to borrow a digital for a coffee shot - the Kiev looks quite ... interesting.. in it's red leather, new black lens, double shoe adaptor with meter and homemade finder on it :D

Congratulations William, post your pictures to see the new toys, so we can share your hapiness.

Forgive me ignorance. I've got a Kiev 4A coming with a Jupiter 8 normal lens. What, pray tell, is an SC 35/2.5? I don't know what SC means. As for the meter, don't need one. I've a Gossen handheld, and too many decades of looking at something and saying, f:8 at 125th, and being close.

The SC lenses are 4 wide angle lenses made by Cosina for the Contax/Nikon rangefinder bayonette mount. The SC stands for this (S being the Nikon S and C for Contax.) Details can be found here http://www.cameraquest.com/nrfVClens.htm

It's just nice to have a new manufacture multicoated lens. I'll be using it on my Contax III as well once it's back from Henry's Contax Day Spa and, unlike my Jupiter-12, it will also work with a Contax IIa or a Bessa R2C should I ever add them to my collection.

The meter is the VC Meter II. It's a nice compact one that I can put into the shoe of the Kiev. My other meter is a circa 1950 GE PR-1 of dubious reliability in low light. I've had a lot of trouble of late with grossly underexposing images in lower EVs, so for me that is a good investment.
